The radio pops with static in a quiet kitchen and a small voice asks if anyone is listening. Beyond the cottonwoods a propeller wakes. Sky King has already heard. He keeps a map of the heartland in his head and two promises on his wings, “Break the Limits” and “Wings of Freedom.”
He files his flight plan under why not, climbs until worries look pocket-sized, then sketches a grin across the clouds. Crooks misplace their swagger when he draws a lazy circle overhead. Lost travelers spot his wink of silver and suddenly remember north. Storms get stage fright when he whistles a steady tune.
He dips a wing hello, lands light as a secret, rights a wrong, untangles a mess, and leaves a note that says keep going. No one can pay him, and no one needs to. He is paid in open sky. Night slides in, the little whir returns. Sky King is still on patrol.
INGREDIENTS
Vintage porcelain dog, doll goggles, altered metal plane clock, hub cap covers, wooden propeller, bike gears, furniture leg, bits of this and that all re-imagined with clay and paint.
