“Pirate Space Cat” was inspired by a little vintage brass teapot and a 1950’s porcelain cat with outstretched arms. The teapot served as the foundation for the spaceship, which was filled with old Styrofoam then covered in Apoxy clay and painted a deep blue such as the midnight sky. Once I put the cat inside, the story of her adventure unfolded in my mind. The golden fish were set in clear resin around her, along with a gold fish glued across her arms. The spaceship was adorned with steampunk elements such as old gears, steamer parts and pirate skulls from an old bracelet. The cat became a space pirate when I added a wire with a star fit around her head. So naturally a triangle hat, Polly the parrot, and pirate flag were required! Here is her story . . .
This feisty feline was a bored house cat. She heard rumors of the most delectable magical golden fishies in another galaxy. She couldn’t stop thinking about them and knew she HAD to find these elusive golden fishies. So, she set about building her spaceship day and night. Then one day she excitedly took off for the far away land of the golden fishies.
It was a long arduous journey and along the way she rescued Polly from an evil villain. She was injured in the fight and decided she would be a space pirate (but only robbing nasty villains and sharing her bounty with other kitties & parrots)!
Finally, one beautiful day she & Polly found the golden fishies! And yes! They were, decidedly, deliciously delectable! And because they were magical, they reproduced so plentifully she knew she had to share. So she and Polly continued to sail through the universe happily sharing their bounty with all they encountered.
