Well, I was on a roll with my monthly newsletter, then life happened. If you haven't heard, my trip to New Orleans turned out to be kind of a disaster. My mom passed away while I was on the road, on May 14th. She was a day and a month shy of her 96th birthday, and hell on wheels right up to the end. Yes, it was awful, but I'm okay. A bit wrung out, but okay.

The workshop was a disappointment too. I think I'll stick to online workshops from now on and save vacations for, well, vacations. But I met some amazing people in NOLA, hopefully lifelong friends. I also decided I never need to go back. It had been twenty years since my last visit, and I'd forgotten how dirty and stinky the city could be. And don't get me started on the weather. One weather gal called it "weather to wear." She wasn't wrong. Home never felt so good.
|
You'd think I'd be in full art making mode by now, but no. Instead I've been in organizing, cleanout, and redecorate mode. Maybe it's my way of working through grief, but it feels good to get my place in order. Six years of caring for mamacita meant a lot of things around my home and yard got neglected, and I don't regret a single one of them. But the itch to get back to work is creeping in, and I've got shows to get ready for.

So thank you for your patience while I put my life back together.

Where I'll be . . .
August 1st my Wild Ones, along with a few other pieces, head to Platte Gallery, where I'll be a spotlight artist for August and September. If you're in Colorado Springs, come by for First Friday on August 7th or September 4th, both from 4-8pm. Platte always does it right with food, drink, fun, and of course, lots of great art.
|
Then I head up to Englewood (a suburb of Denver) for a fun group show with about nine other artists at NKollectiv Gallery, called "Art from Parts." The opening reception is September 12th from 4-8pm, and there's an artist talk on Sunday, September 27th from 2-4pm. Hope to see you there!
|
Oh, and one more! My piece "RESIST" is heading to Los Angeles for Laluzapalooza at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Hollywood. The show runs August 7-30, with opening night on the 7th.

As always, thank you for being part of this wild, creative ride with me. Your encouragement and support mean more than you know. Every story needs an audience. Thanks for being mine.
